CANNIBALS ALONE

“Girl Power On Steroids, That's TU “Cannibals Alone”!
THE GEEK AUTHORITY - Lorenzo Marchessi
Written by Steph DeFerie and directed by Julia Plostieks Theatre Underground in North Hollywood presents a uniquely female driven show with strong vibrant characters and just as engaging performances. What seemed confusing to me is what exactly the issues and problems were in ...the story. I didn't quite follow the logic of a politically created/given/chosen virus or disease that basically required you to be terminated? Again, it's not clear.ca

The Princess and the Frog

“TW's Storybook Theatre's “The Princess And The Frog” Is Pure Family Fun For Children Of All Ages!”
THE GEEK AUTHORITY - Lorenzo Marchessi
It's a classic – Brothers Grimm first came up with “The Frog Prince” in a series of short fairytales back in 1837 and later many adaptions and version were written and Theatre West's proud offshoot of their company – Storybook... Theatre – has created a wonderful fun, funny and musically engaging production called – what else – “The Princess And The Frog”. It smartly written for the kids and cleverly entertaining for the ‘kids at hearts' (parents and adults).

“Fantastic, Pure Energy, Drama of Passion With A Comical Family Heart – Theatre West's “Family Only” Is Absolutely Riveting!”

THE GEEK AUTHORITY - Lorenzo Marchessi

Once again, originality, intense realism and amazing casting have led to this very original and powerful piece of drama (with lots of comedy sprinkled in) called “Family Only”. As the chosen writer for Theatre West's competition of the best originally written and produced plays, this is bar a wonderfully fresh take on a real modern day family. I haven't laughed, been angered, moved and laughed so much all in the same play in a long time.

IRVING'S TIARA

“”Irving's Tiara” Is More About Performance Than Story – But Slow In Pace!”

THE GEEK AUTHORITY - Lorenzo Marchessi

One of the joys of reviewing theatre in general is the opportunity to see fresh new talent, topics Written and Directed by Sam Henry Kass, “Irving's Tiara” is an original play that is a hyperbole of a story. The title reflects the object of desire and its meaning to three young ladies with very distinctive New York personalities. It comes off high energy and with three bold females leads, however, billed as a ‘black comedy', I found the humor coming from the actress's performance and not so much the story. The direction although, poised with high energy, seemed a little more generic in focus and seemed to force some of the humor as opposed to seemingly to be more natural.

3rd RUSH: 80's Edition - Side B

“”3rd RUSH - 80's Rush – Side B” Is Spicy Comedy With A Musical Twist-Tie!”

THE GEEK AUTHORITY  - Lorenzo Marchessi

Force of Nature Productions (at the Eclectic Theater in North Hollywood) is back with another live theatre treat of themed comedy called “Rush” – and this time it is called “3rd Rush: 80's Edition – Side B”. A romping collection of short plays based/themed on classic 80's pop song hits. How does it work – well each short play uses lyrics, the title or particular familiarities of popular of the 1980's in their skit. The fun comes both from the talent and creativity – and – the clever way of using these songs as ‘apart' (0r integrated) into the stories themselves.

The Improvised Generation: Season 3

“Good Ol'e Fashioned Fun, Laughs And Star Trek – “…The Improvised Generation – Season 3” Is Absolute On-The-Spot Comedy!”

THE GEEK AUTHORITY - Lorenzo Marchessi

I've said this before; Comedy is a very fun and entertaining side of acting. Comedy is also very hard work. And when I remember the days of Harvey Korman trying his darndest not to laugh as Tim Conway did his wildest, unencumbered crazy improvisational acts in the classic ‘Carol Burnett Show' – I find a very warm and fuzzy place whenever I see good improvisational performers. “Star Trek: The Improvised Generation” (Season 3) – is a small group of talented actors who are exercising their Comedy muscles and using only their wit, intelligence and experience to make you laugh out loud in the Sci-Fi iconic world known as Star Trek. Okay, yes I am a little biased about the subject, but I am being honest about the talent.

Murder... Murder... Murder...

“Skypilot Theatre's, “Murder…Murder…Murder…” Is A Performance Based Farce!”

THE GEEK AUTHORITY - Lorenzo Marchessi

Skypilot Theatre has an original production they are presenting at The Pan Andreas Theatre in Los Angeles – and it's a light farce that does something fresh –it doesn't take itself seriously. It's called “Murder…Murder…Murder…” and it was written by Adam Hahn and directed by Lois Weiss. What do I mean when I say it doesn't take itself seriously? It's a play that makes note of each of its characters identities by having each of the other characters ‘calling out' their name, occupation and purpose in the opening dialogue. Writer Hahn gave the audience a complete hysterical surprise with that as well as some wonderful ‘Gilmore Girls' rapid-fire, expository dialogue, non-stop dialogue that was amazingly performed by Natalie Nicole Dressel.
