Audience: Bella Merlin
Ernest Kearney is a consummate stage actor. His incarnation of Ingersoll is intelligent, touching, profoundly generous and develops a captivating actor-audience relationship. The merger between the actor and this fact-based character is subtle and heartfelt. I came from the performance with a vastly increased understanding of the historical Ingersoll and a poignant - if not scary - understanding of how little we've evolved over the centuries. I also came away feeling I knew more about Kearney as an actor as his performance is so personalized and personal. This production is entertaining, informative and thought-provoking. What more can one ask of a one-person, one-act, intimate piece?
