Nowhere On The Border

The excellent cast all make the most of Lacamara’s rich and characterful dialogue, with Nichols being particularly strong as the wise and wily Roberto.

Eight Nights

Under the artful yet unobtrusive direction of Emily Chase, the actors invest their characters with an abundance of charm and humanity that make us overlook the play’s occasional clunkiness. Arye Gross, as the gone-too-soon Erich, and Karen Malina White as Rebecca’s friend and business partner Arlene were, for me, the stand-outs in a strong supporting cast... - Recommended

Ravenswood Manor

Directors Tom De Trinis and Jessica Hanna keep the action fast and funny, there is a very nice title sequence at the top of the show when we see the principal players in tableaux as projections tell us who we’re looking at, this sets the tone perfectly.

...I hope it gets the cult following it deserves.

The Abuelas

Director Andi Chapman keeps things moving briskly so we hardly notice that there is a lot more revelation than action. What could be a dry piece of political theatre is lifted by inventive staging and the authenticity of the performances.

The cast is uniformly excellent, the women rightly taking center-stage as stoic support is given by the men. - RECOMMENDED

PRETTY, WITTY NELL

Johnson works very hard and wins our applause and respect, carrying a 50-minute verse play on your own is a massive task and she does it with gusto. Her accent offended my British ears a little at times but that’s just me. The audience I was part of was clearly bowled over by her energy and charm.

Sins

I had heard mixed opinions about the piece and it will not be to everyone’s taste, but it is well worth catching if your fringe-fare is seeming a bit samey.
The production values seem unimpressive at first sight but end up being perfect.

Cirque du Giselle

The skill on display is all the more impressive for seeming so effortless. Any sense of anxiety for the safety of the performers is soon dispelled as their artistry and precision reassure us that they are confident and comfortable...

The Hollywood Fringe might not be the first place that ballet-lovers would look to satisfy their tastes, so I hope it is on their radar, it really should not be missed if that is your bag. Lovers of cirque skills will be equally impressed.

VICTORIA GORDON - LIVE AT THE HOLLYWOOD FRINGE

Ms Gordon is the credited writer, director and producer. As an exercise in putting your own show together, it is impressively ambitious and achieves its goals.

Johnny '81

What Johnny ’81 might lack in spectacle, it makes up for in authenticity, and the fact that the boy in the stories became the wordsmith who is telling them is something of an inspiration. 90 minutes is long for such a relentlessly static piece but the small audience I was part of was attentive and appreciative.

(IM)PERFEKT

There are a plethora of one-person shows at the Hollywood Fringe, this is undoubtedly one of the best examples of the form. The story is worth telling, and is beautifully and artfully told. - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

If We Run

All-in-all, it’s a very well-executed showcase, for the play and performers, and its pursuit of truth and excellence is refreshingly cinematic in this cheap and cheerful theatrical extravaganza that is the Hollywood Fringe Festival. - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Lord of the Lies

Kirkland is an engaging and self-effacing raconteur who still has the remains of an intensity that you can well believe took him to some strange places. - RECOMMENDED

The Duchess & the Stripper

Fringe veteran Ezra Buzzington directs with considerable flair, what could have been a talking heads show is kept alive with detailed and appropriate business, and good use of sound and light.
The performances are uniformly excellent and solid, even at this first preview. I predict they will only get better. I highly recommend this show.

Personal Privilege and True Tales from Tap CIty

Levinson is an engagingly diffident front-man, his singing and playing primarily serve the song rather than the audience, but in the intimate Broadwater Studio, that's fine, it's like he's playing for himself and we're just lucky enough to be there. To anybody interested in song-writing, or the human condition, I highly recommend this show. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The Parisian Dream

If the intention of the show is to try and take this five-girl troupe to the next level then that is certainly accomplished. The show as a whole is cinematic and utterly charming.

KEEPING UP WITH THE PROZOROVS

Briskly directed by Katie Lindsay, the show is extremely well cast and has excellent production values. It also makes good use of the McCadden's two-story stage.
What could have been not much more than a clever idea soon reveals itself to be a very well-made play that manages to honor/parody both of its source works, and tell its own cautionary tale. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
