Audience: Pete Schwartz
Marla tells a moving story with a few unexpected twists and a lot of humor + heart. She's got a lot of great visual aids too - photos, hand drawn caricatures, stuffed animals - to help carry her tale. I don't know much about the world of dog sledding, so it was cool to learn a thing or two - Marla did a good job of weaving interesting facts seamlessly into her performance. I also loved the way that Marla invited the audience into her story. She is very engaging - it really felt like we were all on a journey together. Great, dynamic one-woman show - would see again!
The story was solid with just the right amount of genre elements. The performances by all four actors were each believable and heartfelt. The energy + chemistry between the three generations of women represented was nuanced and complex.
