This was the first opera I had ever attended. I have to say I didn't even know the story line. Let me say, the story line was horrible. A young teenage is thrusted into a marriage she thought was true love and is betrayed by her new husband. She waits for him and years later he returns with a new wife, embarrassing her. What an outrage! The costumes were beautiful Japanese kimonos and to dress the army of actors and actresses must have been quite a task. The actors were very good. I just wished that the topic was more appropriate. How a story like this made a lot of money is beyond my comprehension. I only attended because my friend asked me to. Otherwise, I don't think I would have supported such a production. Aratani Theatre should seriously be more attentive to the topic matter of the projects they support. This opera is about an abuse and disgraceful treatment of a young Japanese teenage girl.
I didn't know what this musical was about or what to expect. I was just blown away when I experienced the musical, Nine on opening night at The Gem Theatre. There are so many talented actresses in this show. Nicole Cassesso was amazing and so was Erika Baldwin with her beautiful soprano voice. But I really enjoyed the performance of Beth Hansen. The costumes (gowns) were beautiful and I liked the use of black in the actresses' costumes which were so appropriate for show. The set was amazing and I loved the use of the screens where the dancers silhouette can be seen through them.
The use of the lighting really enhanced the musical numbers. Just loved, loved, loved it. The theme is a for mature audience but I recommend it. Just fabulous!!!
I have seen this show several times for several years and it keeps getting better. But I must say that this year it was more wacky, more extreme than ever before. Everyone kicked it up several notches. I couldn't stop laughing. The singers were amazing, the musicians were intense. I enjoyed every minute of it .
My favorite character on the show is Mrs Claus. She has that Joanne Worley style with the super high pitch voice. What energy! I love it. The Victorian costumes, the classic traditional Christmas carols and the can can Santa Claus line .
I am going to miss this show. But if it ever comes back... see it. It definitely is a must-see musical for the whole family!
Love, love, love it. I love 70s songs and this one has so many of my favorites. The singing was top notch; acting was great! Love the comedy of it all! I especially thought it was great how the situation in the story line set up the song that was coming up next. It is so funny. I guess my favorite characters were Shirley Winters and the Professor.
You have to see it before it's gone! All of the cast was excellent! I love the way they use the entire theater with characters using every part of the theater. You never know where these characters are going to enter or exit. A must-see production!
