Megan Dolan has the distinct feeling that she's not the right mom. As she navigates the treacherous world of support groups, child psychologists, and play-dates trying to help her son communicate, she makes countless wrong turns along the way. Megan ultimately must face the truth about herself in order to help her child. This hilarious and hopeful solo show is one woman's eye-opening journey into life on the spectrum. It explores the power of resilience, kindness, and the value of showing up. Megan forges a path from believing she's the wrong mom to knowing she's the only mom for her unique and gifted son. Megan has written and performed stories for the Moth, Expressing Motherhood, Listen to Your Mother, Diversity:Tales from the Urban Jungle, The Scripted Comedy Festival, Cake Batter's Funny Women Festival (finalist storytelling competition), the High Brow Comedy Fundraiser, and the Alta Dena Creativity Festival. Her solo show, Snack played to sold out houses and won an Encore! Producers Award at the 2015 Hollywood Fringe Festival. Snack was selected to be a part of the Los Angeles Womens Theatre Festival at the Electric Lodge in Venice. She has been a special guest performer for the Southern California Doula Association and Long Beach City College. She is a founding member of the Elephant Theatre Company. She has opened for the comedy folk duo Mommy Tonk and was a featured speaker at TEDxWomen Pasadena. Her talk entitled Messy Mommy: Slob in the Shadows can be seen on Youtube. She lives in Long Beach with her husband, son, and daughter, and lots of clean laundry still in the baskets. Ms. Hammers loves directing solo artists and is truly delighted to be working on Lemur Mom with the wonderful and witty Megan Dolan. As a stand up comic, shes appeared on Oprah and The Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Wendy is the creator and host of Tasty Words, a monthly spoken word salon, now in it's 15th smash year. This play is for all of us who march to the beat of their own drummer, and to my favorite drummer, Griffin. wendyhammers.com @wendyjoysworld

Megan Dolan is a star, let me just put that out there right away …she is lovely and sweet and endearing and seriously talented…but not at all in an annoyingly perfect way.  She beautifully portrays the arch of motherhood from triumphs to disasters and finding ourselves and understanding that a mother fits herself around the child and so must be as unique and singular for that child as that child is for the world.

“Lemur Mom” is a so wonderfully constructed and so exquisitely performed that it leaves no doubt in Megan's ability to grip an audience with her story and in Wendy Hammer's direction to support and develop and encourage Megan's voice.

This single person one act program written and performed by Megan Dolan, takes a situation that may become a crisis for some parents, while develops a presentation that is comical in substance, in spite of the seriousness to what her son holds emotionally. Her performance is rather bouncy, high in spirit, and shows that she is teetering close to being on the verge of having a nervous breakdown. But the trouper that she is, she rises to the occasion in the same notion that moms of this day and age holds on to!
