In this super one-man show, Paul Yen reimagines three iconic superheroes to examine the history of Asians in America and his own struggle with identity in the film industry. Weaving in his humorous observations and personal experiences, Yen explores the different masks Asian Americans wear through the eyes of Superman, a model minority who stands for truth, justice, and the American way; Batman, whose wealth doesn't free him from discrimination; and Spiderman, a young adult struggling with his responsibility to serve those who reduce his identity to racial stereotypes.
Paul touched on various aspects of Asian-American representation in a way that was thoughtful, poignant, angry in the best way, wise, powerful and true. Anyone who has an interest in this topic should go see it – it will resonate and will make you think. Go see this!
