In SIX CHARACTERS IN SEARCH OF A PLAY, riffing on Pirandello's classic title, Shores brings to life six one-of-a-kind characters he has met in real life that haven't quite made it into one of his plays, films or TV shows. In 90 minutes, the audience will hear the truth behind how he collected these eccentrics and their stories as he portrays his hilarious, off-the-rails encounters with them.

Celebration Theatre is a very small venue known for putting on very big musicals and doing them very well. But I have to tell you, BWW Review: Del Shores Introduces SIX CHARACTERS IN SEARCH OF A PLAY Inspired by Real-Life Encounters with Quirky Peopleseeing Del Shores claim the stage as his own was really a treat as he transformed himself into not only his mother but several other friends and relatives from his childhood in Texas or others he has met over the years in gay bars, banks and convenience stores in SIX CHARACTERS IN SEARCH OF A PLAY. Del Shores is already known as a prolific playwright and screenwriter. With Six Characters in Search of a Play we can add great character actor to the list.

Del Shores manages to bring to life six characters and lots of recollections and reflections, some sad, some funny, and some not fitting into any box. In 90 minutes, he describes a life well lived and abounding with the hilarious, peculiar, unconventional, and downright quirky. So get ready to chuckle your way through his life and times.

Shores' strength is as a writer, and he's reliably witty and sometimes hilariously amusing. This production presupposes some audience knowledge of his work, and his portrayals of women are a bit similar, but these are quibbles. This is a very enjoyable show, and audiences will love it. - RECOMMENDED
