"Surviving "MN Nice". . . and becoming brave AF" will take you on one woman's journey of growing up in Minnesota, where everyone is expected to be "NICE".

From all outside appearances, Paula's childhood was idyllic. She lived in a beautiful upper-middle-class home in Bloomington, MN - a new 1960s suburb of the Twin Cities. She was born at the tail end of the baby boomers - the youngest of 5 daughters born to a hard-working salesman and a stay at home mom. Everything was all so nice!! Great schools, Girl Scouts, 4H, church on Sundays, a neighborhood full of kids to play with, band concerts, little league, hot chocolate by the fire after a cold day of sledding. The Fairbrother's weren't "just keeping up with Jones" - they were the Jones'! Everything was "fine" and the world was dandy.

Except . . . it wasn't.

Through comedy, story-telling, media, and music, "Surviving MN Nice" will examine some universal themes about how family, cultural norms and societal expectations can really put a serious crack in your hotdish.

Masterfully told, Paula’s story shares the good and the bad of her life in a way that leaves you cheering her on to the next chapter . The blend of heart-wrenching tragedy and gut-busting comedy will leave you thoroughly entertained as well as give you insight and wisdom about the strength of the human spirit.

Paula created the perfect mix of comedy and tragedy in the telling of her real life youth growing up in Minnesota. There was never a dull moment in her heart wrenching yet often hilarious one woman play as she brought her highly personal story alive with over twenty different and very unique characters. A must see play from a a very talented actress.

I had the pleasure of viewing this via the live feed feature from front center, and was entranced with her honesty, presentation, and life. The characters she developed in order to tell her story were easily distinguishable from one another, and added levity and humor to the story, especially during the heavier parts of the show. Definitely a show to see!

Masterful story telling. This is a vary brave and engaging show. Paula did a great job taking us on a journey of her life with her. Caution this show may make you cry, laugh and almost pee yourself.

So, first let me say a big thank you to Whitefire Theater for doing live streaming. For many of us, this was the only way to watch a special friend work her craft AND get to be part of it! I was amazed that I could feel the empathy and energy of the crowd for Paula's story...through the stream to my computer sitting in Oklahoma.

Paula touched my heart. I was still processing the story over the weekend that followed.

I remember being amazed at the beginning of The Sound of Music, and she brought all of that back. (I think I'm still moved by it!)

I remember being a child in the 60s in skirts trying to do things that really needed shorts or pants; I was blown away by her candor about her childhood and youth. I'm sure this was a painful journey of self-awareness about that part of her life. And I shed a tear or two half way across the country.

And I was deeply touched by her memories of her aging (and then dying) parents. Been there...don't want that t-shirt. But it is something we all need to talk about more. She creates inspiration for all of us trying to find our voice.

Nice Job Paula! Can't wait to see what else you do!

Wonderful show and very brave of Paula to expose herself to all of her life challenges - Laughed, cried and learned what makes Paula an exceptional human being. I'll probably see it again in June 2020 when it is performed again in Hollywood.

I loved Paula's show!  It warm and touching and oh so true.  She also told about the sad times.  I also grew up in Bloomington MN and kn0w one of Paula's sisters and we are still friends.  I watched this blast from the past show  from my apartment in Minnesota.  I am so glad I didn't miss it.  She has quite a creative mind; I hope to see more from her in the future.  Paula, I wish you a continued successful career!

God bless,

Donna

WONDERFUL! I refreshingly honest story that has not been told before. Paula is BRAVE AF and she gives such an earnest, inspiring performance. Great direction from Sonia. Simple set design allows for the stage to become anything when it is needed. All around amazing.

Paula’s had a remarkable and impressive life. Her gutsy career path and global accomplishments will make your jaw drop. She’s written a fascinating tale of a life well lived and performs it with humor, pathos and a fun mix of over 20 characters and fun multimedia touches. Go see it!!

For an autobiographical story it was still able to touch on so many relevant touching topics of the human experience. Paula never lost my attention as charming as she was. I was truly touched for many different reasons throughout yet she kept it upbeat with her beautiful personality. Loved it!
