15-year-old Christopher has an extraordinary brain: He is exceptional at mathematics but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched, and he distrusts strangers. Now it is 7 minutes after midnight, and Christopher stands beside his neighbor’s dead dog, Wellington, who has been speared with a garden fork. Finding himself under suspicion, Christopher is determined to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington, and he carefully records each fact of the crime. But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a thrilling journey that upturns his world.

Winner of the 2015 Tony Award for Best Play. "This adaptation by the acclaimed playwright Simon Stephens is intensely, innately theatrical; it is also funny and extremely moving…resonates with quality." —Telegraph (London). "…just terrific…a profoundly moving play about adolescence, fractured families, mathematics, colours and lights…dazzling." —Independent (London). "A beautiful, eloquent, dazzlingly inventive show about the wonders of life." —Evening Standard (London).

The 2017 tour of Curious Incident played the Ahmanson with a terrific production, but this 99-seat intimate space actually upped some of the thrilling aspects.

A visceral young actor who channels everything at just the right moment and pace, Kohn kinetically registers Christopher’s anguished, electrifying living-in-the-moment. A jittery mindset that initially feels chaotic and anarchic evolves magnificently; Kohn embodies Christopher’s determination perfectly (would that so many students are that ardent to to pass an A-level math exam).

For all the magic of the Greenway Court's production, these little details don't pack the punch they need to and don't ground the second half of the story.

But if you missed "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time," this is a great chance to see a big play in an intimate space.

Extended through December at the Greenway Court Theatre, “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” offers telling insights into a family dealing with a son struggling with behavioral problems, but is most compelling in the not-to-miss way the story gets told.
