Just in time for the Halloween season, Villainy, or H.H. Holmes' Own Story arrives at the Whitefire Theatre. It's the incredible true story of H.H. Holmes (1861-1896), America's first serial killer. Born Herman Webster Mudgett, his favored alias was H.H. Holmes, reportedly assuming the name in tribute to the fictional master of mystery, Sherlock. A master seducer of women, Holmes was ultimately married to three women simultaneously. His many crimes included arson, insurance fraud, torture and murder. He confessed to 27 murders in a memoir, written in a response to a lucrative offer from newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst. Having received training in the medical profession, Holmes sometimes dissected the bodies of his victims, selling their skeletons to medical schools. In the most brazen portion of his career, Holmes had a “murder castle” with a pharmacy, a torture chamber, apartments for young women who disappeared mysteriously…all just three miles east of the Columbian Exposition (the 1893 Chicago World's Fair), giving rise to Holmes' nickname, “the Devil in the White City.” Villainy is the story of a master of evil, and of the women he loved and manipulated.

"Don't miss this play! You need to see it now! The creepy, funny, true story of H.H. Holmes is brought to life by Mr. Strysik's talented writing, Jeff Rack's superb directing, and by brilliant acting. I highly recommend it!"

"Dark but comic rendition of a truly harrowing story. John Strysik's winning play brings one of America's most disturbing serial killers to life. The production is superb with dynamic performances from all involved, and inventive use of sound and light to create an intensely immersive experience. Well done director Jeff Rack and team. Happy Halloween!"

"For those who have not read this book or know Holmes' background, the play is a bit confusing. Told in a series of flashbacks, the narrative comes out choppy. However, it is a gruesome tale befitting this ghoulish time of year."

"I saw the play last night and it was a wild ride into the twisted mind of a serial killer. I was captivated by the bizarre, true story as it was brought to life by a cast of talented players. Writer, John Strysik managed to tell his version of this big story in the intimate Whitefire Theater. It worked beautifully. I highly recommend that you see this production."

"As horrid as the subject is, it's a hell of a great story to tell, especially since Halloween is nearing by. Strysik is an excellent story teller. He gives you enough that you'll tip over, but, will return to normalcy and Rack executes the playwright's vision perfectly well."

"VILLAINY shows that such multiple killings did occur back when opportunity was ripe to only those that knew what they were doing, rather than being the works of an amateur. And unlike the evil to the killings, nothing graphic is seen on stage. It's up to the imagination of the audience to witness what was set within the mind of Holmes fulfilling his quests of power and eventually infame."
